FERRIES CHOOSE POSITIVE ID SYSTEM FOR SANDWICH LABELLING
Fresh sandwiches sold on board Stena Line ferries are now being labelled using a hand-held system from Positive ID.
The company sells thousands of sandwiches each day on its Cross Channel and Irish Sea ferries, and it's important that they're all fresh. Before trialling the system from Positive ID, labels for the sandwiches were hand written. Although this method was virtually foolproof, it was also time-consuming. To update Stena's sandwich labelling, Positive ID of Derby suggested a three-line hand-held labelling machine and seven different coloured labels - one for each day of the week.
Preparation and use by dates, with the packer's initials, is quickly dialled into the labeller. Squeezing the 'trigger' prints and dispenses each label ready to apply to the sandwich packs.
"Stena have told us that our new system has saved them 50% in labour costs," said Positive ID's Managing Director, John Mayers. "The traceability element provided by the initials has also resulted in improved quality standards."
Positive ID supplies a choice of touch but competitively priced hand-held labellers. The wholly UK owned company, run by staff with many years experience in the label industry, supplies one, two or three line machines. They are ideal for a wide range of labelling tasks such as pricing, coding, stock control, inspection and batch numbering. "For many routine labelling needs, these simple and economical labellers are a far more cost-effective option than more expensive and complex electronic label systems," John added.
Standard machines with popular print combinations are supplied from stock but models can be built to meet individual customer or industry needs.

Self-adhesive labels for use through all hand-held machines on the market, whoever the manufacturer is, are produced on the latest label equipment. Stock lines are offered in white or a choice of colours, including dayglo, and adhesives. Logos, department and company names can be pre-printed to order.
