What are the Different Types of Price Guns?

Pricing guns are commonly classified into three categories: 1 line, 2 line, or 3 line. The distinction lies in the number of rows of text that can be printed on the labels.

One Line, Two Line and Three Line Label Guns

1 line guns are typically used for displaying just the price of an item or a use by date on a use by date label.  2 line and 3 line guns allow for additional information such as product codes, expiration dates, or special offers to be included on the labels.

This versatility makes 2 and 3 line guns popular choices for a company who is looking to provide more detailed information on their products. Ultimately, the choice of gun depends on the specific needs and preferences you have.

The Number of Characters Your Price Gun Labels Need

The number of characters that a gun can print is typically indicated by the model code, such as “C6” or “C8”. A “C6” gun can print up to 6 larger characters, while a “C8” gun can print up to 8 slightly smaller characters. For alphanumeric characters, the letter “A” is used in the code. 

These specifications are important to consider when choosing a label gun for your business, as they determine the amount of information that you can display on your products. 2 Line guns have their codes truncated, so C17 would indicate 10 characters on the top row and 7 on the bottom. C20 indicates 10 rows on the top and the bottom.

Selecting the Right Ink Roller

Ink rollers are proprietary consumables designed to fit specific guns. Ink rollers will normally last around 15,000 impressions before needing replacement, and you’ll need to ensure that your roller has enough ink to last through your pricing tasks.

If you have a swing gun, you are able to use Jolly Ink Rollers, whereas Open Data price guns will only accept Open Data Ink Rollers. Open Data Ink Rollers are available as one model that will fit 1 and 2 line price guns, and another type for the Open Data T117 and T111 (3 line guns).
