Microsoft Update wrecks LabelDirect database links: Microsoft rolled out a Windows Update across Windows 7, 8 and 10 and it appears to have broken the link between LabelDirect label templates and the databases. The update started being applied on 11th October 2017. We imagine the company will rectify this update with a further update.
If you are using LabelDirect and get an error message when you try to print the label, you may well be a victim of this update. The message may look like the one pictured here but the error may be described in a number of different ways.
To solve the problem, the easiest step is to roll back the Microsoft Update and restore the computer to the last known working condition. This can be done using the System Restore function.
If you don’t know how to do this, just go to google and type in system restore and the version number of windows you are using. i.e. “system restore windows 10” or “system restore win 7”
If you don’t know your Windows version, click the start button, move your mouse cursor over the Computer icon/word and right click to get a contextual menu. Click Properties; this will list details of your computer including the operating system.
You can find out some information for removing updates manually from Windows 10 by clicking here.
If removal of the update does not work, you are left with only one option which is to re-install windows along with all your other software!
If you are using LabelDirect for TSC:
Before doing this, create a text file and name it “labeldirect.lic” (You must have file extensions showing to replace the txt bit with “lic”.) You will then need to transfer your license. To discover more, click the license centre next to the Help button on the menu in Label Direct and follow the instructions.
If you are using LabelDirect for SOLO:
The Label Direct for SOLO license is in the printer itself and not the software; there is no need to save any license data.
