SORRY – WE NO LONGER MANUFACTURE TYRE LABELS
Local tyre distributor needed help with a sticky problem! Tyre Labels are a specialised solution.
Positive ID Labels were approached by a local tyre distributor who was having problems with their tyre labels staying on during transit.
Our first port of call was to our paper supplier Smith and McLaurin who are always willing to solve our customer problems. Mike Galvin quickly came up with the solution using a semi-gloss paper-foil laminate construction, laminated with a high tack, permanent hot melt adhesive to a glassine liner.
The specific problem is that tyres undergo harsh handling and it is important that the tyre labels not only stick but also do not tear even when on the tyre. As a result, the semi-gloss paper allowed for us to print easily using water based ink – good for the environment. It also had a foil laminate to ensure the paper would not tear easily. The foil is durable but also oxdises over time so is non-toxic. Finally, the adhesive is such that it is very difficult for the tyre labels to be accidentally removed e.g. by heavy wear and handling. But it also means that the label can be removed if necessary and due to the foil laminate, the paper will not tear without extreme manipulation.
Commenting on the solution:
This has very good adhesion properties from –20 to 50 degrees Celsius. The high tack rubber-resin hot melt adhesive is designed to give high tack and adhesion to both polar and non polar substrates.
Needless to say the customer was very pleased with the outcome, as the number of tyres returned to base was reduced by 95%. Joey Ascott (Managing Director), visited the our newly built premises to thank us in person.
Working with Positive ID Labels always ends in great results and this is another great example. We have saved a small fortune in returns and reduced administration problems as a result.
